Cate Blanchett

Cate Blanchett atau nama sebenarnya Catherine Élise "Cate" Blanchett dilahirkan pada 14 Mei 1969 di Ivanhoe, Melbourne, Australia.

Cate Blanchett merupakan salah seorang daripada pelakon Australia yang mencipta nama di Hollywood. Artis Australia yang lain seperti Eric Bana, Hugh Jackman, Guy Pearce dan Russell Crowe (pelakon Australia kelahiran New Zealand).

Nama Blanchett mula mendapat perhatian setelah melakonkan watak Ratu Elizabeth I dalam filem Elizabeth arahan Shekhar Kapur pada tahun 1988. Kemudian Blanchett telah dipilih untuk melakonkan watak Galadriel di dalam filem Lord of the Rings arahan Peter Jackson, sebagai antagonis Dr. Irina Spalko dalam filem Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull dan sebagai Katharine Hepburn di dalam filem The Aviator arahan Martin Scorsese. Lakonannya dalam filem The Aviator telah melayakkannya memenangi anugerah Pelakon Pembantu Terbaik di Anugerah Akademi tahun 2004.

Cate Blanchett juga pernah berlakon bersama Brad Pitt dan Tild Swinson dalam filem The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.

Cate Blanchett akan kembali membawakan watak Galadriel dalam filem prekuel untuk trilogi Lord of the Rings iaitu The Hobbit.

Kini, Cate Blanchett bersama suaminya Andrew Upton menjadi pengarah artistik untuk Sydney Theater Company.
